“Corners, Paths, Noise,” the latest from Durham-based 2Dwave, is a collection of lofi, moody electronic tracks that pay homage to his ambient background, (specifically in his work with Chicago-based, atmospheric soundscape project Vettii). In his new solo project, the sound is a synthesis of pulled elements from deep house, experimental electronic, and UKG, featuring crunchy drums, sweeping pads, dubby bass lines, and a unique, pure sense of nostalgia innate to most of his work. Showcasing a wide array of original field recordings, found sounds, and unexpected timbres from instruments like harps and kalimbas, 2Dwave’s newest work sets itself apart with its minimal, collage-like structure. The EP starts off in the trippier, shuffling space of “Worlds We Create,” and ends with “Wade,” an introspective track invoking images of wet stones and clay. In totality, the EP is reminiscent of a comedown you want to have, over and over again.
